We whole heartedly agree with your first paragraph.  It is our understanding that the Christian Life of Christ living in us is not us changing our habits or developing new habits based upon our belief that Christ is now our Life.  Life lives and our Life is now Christ living in us.

In Galatians 2:20, Paul leaves no room for the developing of a new set of laws or related works, since that would still be us trying to live the Life of Christ or as many say, trying to determine what would Jesus do.  We do believe that "lifestyle" changes, but only as a result of the changing of the very nature and character of the believer.  This change or exchange takes place as Christ is revealed and formed in the believer; transforming the soul (2 Corinthians 3:18, 2 Corinthians 4:6).  The putting off of the Old Man and putting on the New Man (which is Christ) is not the same thing as merely forming new habits.  It is rather the renewing of the mind by the working of the Spirit of Christ within: "According to the power which worketh mightily in me" Colossians 1:29, Ephesians 3:16-20.

If we will spend our time seeking the Father to reveal His Son in us, the real change will take place.
